Is drinking weight loss tea an effective way to shed the pounds?
Yes! It is. Tea extract is often being included in weight loss supplements that you see on TV. Taking it naturally has the advantage of being less expensive, and getting higher concentrations.
Why would supplement makers use tea extract? Because there are many benefits to tea. In fact, there have been thousands of studies done on the effects of tea. Check out PubMed.Com and search for terms such as tea, white tea and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), theanine, which are components of tea.
The studies have investigated the effects that tea has on weight loss, cancer prevention, antioxidant activity, cognitive abilities, general health and the immune system, and many other areas with positive results. Basically, tea can make you healthier in many different ways.
However, why is it included in popular big shot fat burning pills that you see today on TV? There are many reasons, in fact, tea extract could probably be made into a diet pill by itself! One reason is caffeine, tea is a good source of natural caffeine, and caffeine is well known to be a good fat burner and metabolism enhancer. (see Am J Clin Nutr. 1989 Jan;49(1):44-50, Am J Clin Nutr. 1980 May;33(5):989-97 for clinical studies).
If that was the only thing it did, this would be a pretty short article, however, there are additional benefits to weight loss tea. It also contains many anti-oxidants, similar to vitamin C and beta-carotene. Researchers have also suggested that epigallocatechin gallate, one of the components of Wu-Yi tea, is 200 timer more power of an anti-oxidant than vitamin E.
But wait... there's more! White tea is also effective as a glucose regulator, which means that it slows the rise of blood sugar after eating a meal. It does this by slowing the activity of a digestive enzyme called amylase. Amylase is used in the breakdown of starches (carbohydrates) which will cause blood sugar levels to rise after a meal, but tea can mitigate this effect. Having lower blood sugar will cause your body to store less of it as fat! (see Am J Clin Nutr. 2006 Sep;84(3):551-5).
White tea might be the one of the keys to proper glucose management. Tea has also people lose weight by increasing their metabolic rates, and ncreasing calorie burn. (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. 1999 Dec;70(6):1040-5)
Another recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition validates Tea's effectiveness and indicates that drinking tea rich in catechins (catechins are a major component of white tea extract) leads to both a lowering of bodyfat AND of cholesterol levels. (Am J Clin Nutr; 81:122-129) In addition, there's also evidence that consuming white tea high in catechins reduces cardiovascular risks in addition to reducing body fat.
As you can see, there are many scientifically proven benefits that result from tea, including weight loss, cancer prevention, improved antioxidant activity, improved cognitive abilities, and improved general health and the immune system. So what are you waiting for? Get your free trial today!
